m i ll to w n

Last night while we were all colabing together i gave frank the sounds i recorded at the Newry Mill a few hours prior to the colab and he started to mess with them inside reaktor. The sample he is mainly using is of me playing with tumblers on a electrical box in the mills furnace room and the other sample is from me spinning a metal wheel on a door (the sounds from that are used more in the second piece).

Below is a little clip of me recording the sample of the electrical box,

And here is a link to the other video which shows me recording the metal wheel on the door.

Here are the two pieces, i have not edited them anyway just uploaded the stems as frank gave them to me after he got done processing, im really happy working with people like this as i get real enjoyment out of doing the recording aspect but its also nice to hear what someone else can do on top of your vision.

experimenting w/makynzi on a pot with mallets

My friend storm and her daughter makynzi have been staying here for the weekend and mak wanted to play some drums so i gave her a pot and some mallets and let her go at it, not to long after she started playing i decided to get my cameras and recorder and get some stuff to mess with.

Here is the processed version of the audio after i got done messing with it.

using plastic tote to explore/amplifi sounds of a metal rail

while at work today i was getting totes out from behind the shop and one fell and it a metal rail and staying up against it which amplified the sound, i found this really interesting and tried to re-create it with another tote later that day and really liked the sound it makes. Below is a little video to show the idea, it was hard to do it the same way as i was holding the camera but it still sounds the same.

Two Generative Chains w/ Controll From Boiingg + Forester v1.4

In this little test im using two generative chains that are being controlled by two different virtual 128 monome controllers setup in boiingg along side of that i am running stand alone application made in max/msp called forester v1.4 made by leafcutterjohn. The first generative chain is loaded with the same sounds as forester and the second generative chain has a seperate sample pack loaded into it.

67 watt

For this project i used my macbook with ableton live, a mbox interface, a light bulb and a pair on stereo mics. The point was to make a release using no musical instruments, the release is very minimal each track being under 60 seconds and each track being made up of only one or two sounds from the lightbulb.

If you want to check out the release you can, Download Here

Below is some footage of the making of this release,

Sound Destroyer + Metal Rods + Ableton Live

so while surfing the web i came across this little computer app for both mac and windows called sound destroyer it was designed by Zack Gage the guy who made the synthpond iphone app.

here is a little info about it taken off his site:

"Sound Destroyer (Average) modifies live audio input by averaging an optional number of frame together. This creates a synthesized sound (like it's being piped through a gameboy). "

so i decided to use my 2 metal rods i have laying around in the studio and see what it would be live running it through SD and then into ableton live and below is the outcome.

You can also download the app from his website and check out other work he has done as well, http://www.stfj.net/index2.html
