I went to my parents house to pick up some papers and then go by the atm, while there it was a little windy and i could hear a wind chime my mom had by the front door so i decided to pull out my little camera and record the video clip above to bring the sounds back and process.
My friend storm and her daughter makynzi have been staying here for the weekend and mak wanted to play some drums so i gave her a pot and some mallets and let her go at it, not to long after she started playing i decided to get my cameras and recorder and get some stuff to mess with.
Here is the processed version of the audio after i got done messing with it.
I have always been info field recording and it is always interesting using a new mic, recorder or method to record, so i am always in search of that new appraoch i have not tryed And i belive i have found that new approach.
Terrain Field Recording: this is almost as if you are using the vehicle as the mic of sorts.
This method of field recording came about while i was thinking of fitting a mobile setup into a vehicle. This new reformed idea is to record different driving conditions/terrain by using a homemade transducer microphone attached to the body of the car, running it to a portable recorder placed in the front seat.
The plan was not to only pick up shifts and changes in the terrain conditions but to hear the car itself and how it was reacting to the changes. For this trial the road conditions were fairly simple not much change was introduced other than the puddles of water and pot holes here and there and even with that you can still hear the car going through so many changes, i kept the car at around 50mph during the recording.
Below you will see a video displaying short clips of the recording process of this first trial as well as audio coming in after the car is turned on.
I think this idea would be interesting trying in various vehicles and at different speeds as well as on different roads (in terms of gravel, cement, stone and so on).

also, im thinking of writing my new cd using this method. so be sure to look for that.
I posted a recording the other day of me tapping this fence/handrail structure and recording it with the built in mics on my h4, well i decided to go back tonight and give it another go with my mallets and a clamped contact mic. All the audio is natural nothing has been done or added to it.
This is just a simple drum loop made in nanoloop 1.3 being ran on a dmg and being run through 6 different sends filled with effects, i used alot of drum slicing effects and some synth ones as well.
Ive been messing around with sound from these little finger cymbals i picked up and have been getting some very interesting sounds made with them, the drone below was made in a series of playing the sound on a keyboard through a amp and re recording to give it a very rich and natural feel to it, it did that procedure about 8 times changing the mic position each time.
feel free to download the sample and use as you like (download button on right side of player under info button.)
Before joe went to work last night he was playing me some a dubstep track he made and it got me thinking about trying new styles of music with my setup and see how they would play out. In the experiment below im making a attempt at some generative dubstep using triggering from Boiingg sent to ableton live.
I think the experiment was decent tho i would like to try to get it sounding a little more like hard hitting dubstep but that may take some time and using some different sounds. Untill then enjoy this for now.
I thought about a time that i had pulled lsdj out of my gameboy before it was turned off and it started to glitch the sound alot so i decided to try doing the same thing with my sega system and it worked, it will some times do a drone style glitch and other times it will do a random mashup of the different sounds through out the game. One cool thing to do is after it starts glitch from pulling the cart out put a different one in and it will freak out even more.
